I am pleased to announce that my precious new niece has arrived!! She was born September 30, 2009 at about 10:30am after 24 LONG hours of labor. She weighed 8 pounds 14 ounces and was 22 inches long!! Although only 2 ounces from 9 pounds she still seems sooooo tiny. Alissa was a trooper from what I hear! She endured almost 24 hours of labor and pushed for 2-1/2 hours to bring little Caelyn into all of our lives!! Alissa also started running a fever midway through labor, so little Caelyn had to have IV antibiotics for 48 hours. It was so pitiful seeing the IV access in her not-so-tiny little foot...she has HUGE feet!! LOL! All cultures were negative, so they got to go home just over 48 hours after she was born. I must say that she is BEAUTIFUL!! I've never seen baby pictures of Alissa, but she definitely resembles Deagan (her daddy). I have had to enjoy my other nieces and nephews from a far since my sister lives in Wisconsin and my brother is in Tallahassee. I am especially looking forward to getting to watch Caelyn grow up close! I really hope she and Rylee are life long friends! I don't expect to be giving Rylee a sister, so I hope she and Caelyn will enjoy the type of relationship my sister and I have been so blessed with!
We spent Saturday evening with Damon's parents and the new family! I must admit that it was hard to share little Caelyn. Luckily Rylee keeps me on my toes, so I wasn't too selfish with her! I could have snuggled her the whole time. There is just something about a 3 day old baby!! I was proud of how Rylee responded. When she first saw me holding the baby, her bottom lip quivered a bit, but she didn't totally freak out like she has in the past with other babies. I let her crawl up in my lap with me and Caelyn and she was fine. The only other sign that she was feeling the 'lack of attention' was when Nanny was taking pictures of the baby, she yelled out, "Take a picture of me Nanny!" She NEVER asks for her picture to be taken and for the most part avoids the camera. I know she has some adjusting to do, but I am really proud of how well she has done. I'm sure it is a bit of shock to go from being the center of attention to now having to share. She isn't the best at sharing...so this will be a trial, I'm sure. For now, though, she has been a good sport!
P.S. Notice the pacifier clip with the BEAUTIFUL 'C' in the picture of Caelyn in her carseat. This is the pacifier clip I made with my embroidery machine!! LOL!! I forgot to take a picture of it, so I thought I'd include it here!
